“Over 2500 First-Team Appearances Across 4 Professional Divisions” – Mark Ellis Discusses RIASA’s Coaching Team
As RIASA enter their 10th anniversary year, I want to highlight, the backgrounds and diversity of the current coaching team, who between them have over 2500 first-team appearances across 4 professional divisions in England, Scotland, and Europe.
Rob Jones – UEFA A Advanced Licence Coach
Rob, our Head Coach, needs no introduction, now entering his 3rd year with RIASA. A natural leader, Rob’s presence both on and off the field commands respect that has been well earnt. He has captained every club he ever played for, including Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and Scunthorpe. He has also played in Europe, with Scottish-premiership club Hibernian. Rob’s coaching style and obvious passion have enriched both the academy and the student-athletes’ experience.
Kamran Stead – UEFA B Licence Coach
Kamran is RIASA’s 2nd longest-serving coach, as he embarks on his 5th year with the programme. Having worked previously at Bradford College, Kamran discovered Omar Damba who after playing with RIASA is now playing for Championship team Sheffield Wednesday.
William Paynter – UEFA A Advanced Licence Coach.
RIASA would like to welcome Billy who has only recently retired from professional football, having played at several high profile clubs including Leeds United, Brighton, Sheffield United and Hull City. When Billy is not coaching at RIASA, he can be found working with academy players at Everton FC.
Greg Abbott – UEFA A Advanced Licence Coach.
Greg is a former teammate of mine, and so it’s great to have him here at RIASA after a long career at clubs, Bradford, and Hull City.
After his retirement from the beautiful game, Greg also worked at the Leeds United Academy before a successful 5 years as the First Team Manager at Carlisle United, followed by periods as Head of Football with both Bradford City and Mansfield Town.
John Hendrie – UEFA A Advanced Licence Coach
John is the longest-serving coach at RIASA and former Premiership player sharing his expertise on the game that saw his successful career take him from Coventry City, onto Bradford City, then Newcastle United, Leeds United, Middlesbrough and finally Barnsley where he also had a short spell as First Team Manager.
John Francis – UEFA A Advanced Licence Coach
As John enters into his 3rd season with RIASA, he brings a wealth of experience as a former player for professional clubs including Sheffield United and Burnley, where he has also coached.
Karl Lanaghan – Goalkeeping Coach
Karl has brought a wealth of experience to RIASA since he joined the team 5 years ago, and continues to support the goalkeeping students with his incredible passion and professionalism. Karl worked with several clubs, and when not at RIASA works as the First Team GK Coach at national league side Stockport County.
Clive Brown – Physio
Clive is now entering his 2nd year with RIASA, having worked previously in the Champions League with both Leeds United and Glasgow Celtic. Clive’s expertise is key to the coaching team, as he ensures the boys are fit and safe to play.
William MacGregor – Fitness coach.
RIASA also welcome Will, who previously worked with Bradford City U23s.
