Tom Henson Delivers Out of Season Strength & Conditioning Programme

As the final semester of the season is coming to a close, and our student-athletes are returning home for the summer, it was great to have Tom on campus once again to deliver a detailed Strength & conditioning session.

The session was split into two segments, with gym and on pitch conditioning drills. The first part of the morning was spent in Leeds Beckett’s newly developed  £45 Million Carnegie School of Sport. The facilities on offer in this new building are world-class – they outshine most professional football clubs, including some top tier Premier League teams.

Inside the gym, Tom went through a vigorous workout plan which would enable our student-athletes to develop explosive power and strength which is needed on the soccer pitch.

Tom is a highly experienced S&C coach whose career has been embedded in elite sports performance for over 13 years. His work includes clients such as the GB Olympic and Paralympic athletes, British Tennis academy kids as well as private clients. It was clear that all of our students were relishing the experience of the close 1-to-1 coaching that was on offer.

After the gym session, we then headed out onto the pitch to finish off with more S&C drills which would see the students participate in optimal maximum heart rate specific soccer drills. These drills were intense but offered scope around better developing power, speed and agility.

We can’t thank Tom enough for all of his hard work, and we are looking forward to offering all of our student-athletes out of season programmes to make sure they remain at a high level of fitness whilst returning home for the summer months.
