Match Report: “A well-deserved result and a very good team performance” | RIASA West 8 vs. 2 Ramsbottom Utd. Reserves

First Half

With ideal conditions for soccer on a nice sunny March day, we started the game very well. Showing some good build-up play and possession in the first 25 mins and were quickly on the front foot with Immanuel Kinuthia scoring early slipping the ball past the keeper from an assist from Paul Mcfarlane.  Soon after we created multiple chances which we failed to capitalise on until Joe Leonardo scored his first of the day.

For the final 20 mins of the first half, we became complacent and ponderous as we dropped the intensity. We ended the first half with a 2-0 lead but it should have been more and the half ended with somewhat of a whimper.

Second Half

A complete contrast to the end of the first half as we came out of the blocks again, showing great intensity in our play with good ability to press and close the opposition. We also showed great quality going forward, totally dominating the early minutes of the second half, which the opposition could not cope with.

This resulted in 2 early goals. One in the 49th striking the ball into the top corner and another on 55 mins, both for Leonardo. Securing his hat-trick.

A slight lapse in concentration gifted the opposition a goal on 56 mins, which we reacted with the goal of the game on 57 mins as a good through ball played by Immanuel Kinuthia and fabulous cross in the box from Tristan Knudsen was perfectly timed for Joe Leonardo to volley into the top corner from 10 yds out.

We carried the momentum into our next attack from a corner, which was parried by the keeper only for Kaushik Dhanyamraju to score from close range on 59 mins. As the game fizzled out, a positive run on the left from Carlos Rodriguez into the final third cut in and played a through ball to Cole Dunham who strike went in off the GK on 72 mins.

Another build up from the left by Israel Kinyolo set up Paul McFarlane who slid a ball into the path of Cole Dunham to score his second on 74 mins. Again, from a corner immediately after we let in the opposition from a near post corner on 75 mins. to round off the scoring.

On Reflection

A well-deserved result and a very good team performance culminating with some ruthless, clinical finishing. However, we must remember to be continually consistent for and focus throughout the whole 90 mins. – Coach Francis
