On a sunny February afternoon at Sports Park Weetwood where the conditions were great for soccer, we hosted Ashton Town.
We started the game very ponderous as the opposition got behind the ball looking organised and compact which seemed to slow the tempo of our game down, which lead to us having good field possession as they tried to prevent us penetrating them.
The only real chance in the first 20 mins came after 2 minutes, a breakthrough run by Paul Macfarlane who shot from the edge of the box was parried by GK to Christian McKeown who slotted the ball home only to be given offside. We stepped up our performance and on 22 mins, after a good passage of play from Chris Allen and Paul Macfarlane lead to Carlos Rodriguez flying down the left to send in a cross McKeown to strike which was saved by the Ashton GK.
Immediately after, on 23 mins, Chibuzo Nwosu powered into the box, squared the ball to Immanuel Kinuthia who shot came back off the GK for Tristan Knudsen to score on the rebound. It was soon 2-0 on 27 mins, Immanuel kinuthia drove down the left to cross for Tristan Knudsen to slot home his second.
On 34 mins, Immanuel kinuthia scored the goal of the game as he came inside on the left to strike the ball into the top corner. As we continued to dominate it was soon 4-0 on 42 mins as a forward run by Christian McKeown who selflessly played the ball to Immanuel Kinuthia to score his 2nd. On 43 mins, a split pass from Paul Mcfarlane and another good forward run from McKeown who slotted the ball into the net to make it 5-0.
We made all 5 substitutions at halftime and continued to dominate the opposition with chances coming from on 52 mins, as Carlos Rodriguez broke down the left played a good one/two with Skyler Simmonds who squared to Christian Mckeown who shot over the bar.
On 53 mins, Christian Mckeown who played the ball through to Kaushik Dhanyamraju whos shot was saved by the GK before Israel Kinyolo’s pass down the left to Kaushik Dhanyamraju drove into the box and shoot which the GK parried to Christian Mckeown to slot home his second to make it 6-0 on 54 mins.
We soon made it 7-0 as on 58 mins Paul Macfarlane showed great positivity to drive through past 2 players into the box and drive the ball under the GK. We attacked at will whilst looking very solid at the back and finished the game strongly. Completing a resounding victory with Kaushik Dhanyamraju scoring from a good run down the right from Matty Weiner who played the ball to Tristan Knudsen to unselfishly squared it to Kaushik on 81 mins.
Upon reflection, it was a totally dominant team performance.
We controlled the game throughout creating good opportunities with fluidity, good movement and good decision making, whilst looking very safe and organised defensively. Marshalled by Bo Day and Ashton Bell at centre back and both GK’s, Joe Demartino and Duncan Curtis, though they did not have too much to do, they both showed good distribution and security. Resulting in a clean sheet.
A very pleasing performance, well-done boys!
