4 Simple Yet Effective Soccer Drills To Try in the Off-Season

Let’s be honest, it’s easy to slack off in the off-season.

But if you want to reach your true potential, it’s absolutely vital that you try and avoid the temptation to stop training or you risk returning to playing unfit, unfocused and at a huge disadvantage.

We recently got together with our Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach to run through some simple drills that will keep you sharp and one step ahead of your opposition.

  1. 3-Part Agility circuit

This one will test your footwork. If you don’t have all of the equipment (e.g. poles) simply use some cones for the whole sequence.

Feel free to mix up the way you tackle the separate parts of the sequence, perhaps swap a hop for a bound, or a shuffle for zig-zag.

  1. The defensive maze

Ever been surrounded by defenders feeling like there’s no way out? This one will help you adapt to that very situation, whilst testing your spatial awareness, footwork and finishing.

Don’t worry about the route you take, just try and make it out of the defensive maze as quick as possible.

  1. Agility and finish

Don’t just focus on the finish, make sure your movement is dynamic, sharp and powerful.

Again, if you don’t have poles, just use extra cones and don’t forget to aim for the corners.

  1. Lateral passing

This will test your focus, speed and passing technique. It’s tougher than you would guess, so get prepared for a challenge.

If you don’t have any mannequins, don’t worry, just use the cones.

You have some drills, but what are you going to do now?

It’s easy to read articles and watch videos on what you should be doing.

The important thing is that you take action and make the promise to yourself that you will return next season quicker, stronger and hungrier than ever.

If you need the motivation to get started, remember this:

The player you’ll be coming up against once the season starts could be out there on the field putting the work in right now.

So, get the edge on your opponent and put the work in.

Your next season depends on it.
