Former Championship Striker Joins RIASA Coaching Staff

With a successful playing career, professional footballer James Hanson is now looking to pursue a coaching pathway and where better to do this? At Leeds Beckett with the RIASA team of-course, under the expert mentorship of ex England Youth Team Manager and Pro-License tutor Martin Hunter.

RIASA has a history with James that began over 14 years ago when Academy Director Mark Ellis spotted him playing amateur at Eccleshill United whilst he was still working at the local COOP supermarket!

Mark was at the time coaching the first team at Guiseley FC and immediately brought him into the team there.  A little later he then recommended him to his former club Bradford City and former teammate Stuart McCall who was managing them at the time.  After a six week trial James signed his first pro contract!

During his 8 years at Valley Parade, Hanson was a member of the 2012/13 League Two promotion-winning squad, scoring at Wembley in the play-off final against Northampton Town who they defeated 3-0.  James is also ranked third on Bradford City’s all-time goalscoring list with a total of 90 goals being scored overall.

After Bradford City James went on to play for Championship club Sheffield United, followed by spells at both Wimbledon AFC and Grimsby Town.

He is presently playing at Farsley Celtic whilst looking to pursue a coaching career for once his playing days come to an inevitable end. As the relationship created back in 2007 has lasted throughout, Mark is now delighted to see James join RIASA to pursue his latest goals!!
