Glossop North End V RIASA East (25-11-17) (1-2)

Match Overview: We showed a real togetherness throughout this game and kept on creating chances, in past weeks we have struggling creating in the final third, but we have really improved in this area. We showed great hunger and determination to get on the ball and win personal battles with the opposing side, and managed to get the three points that we completely deserved, and I couldn’t be more proud of the players.

First Half:

Started the first half really well controlling the ball and the game, having several waves of attacks.

The ball came in from a wide area by Akwayena, which landed to Austin, who shot over the cross bar. We looked very dangerous down the left side, with Barbieri filling in for the injured Jackson, some great combination play between the Akwayena and Barbieri who made a great overlapping run but was unfortunate with the delivery into the box getting cut out by Glossop. Several times when East lost possession there was a real hunger and desire to win the ball back as so as possible. Sagli started to dictate play and slipped a well weighted pass into Gibert who shot first time and saved by the Glossop GK. Dhanyamraju caused the Glossop defence a lot of problems with his pressing and great hold up and link up play. The ball was played over the top to Dhanyamraju who struck the shot on the volley and was deflected out for a corner which we were unable to capitalise on.

Austin cut inside onto his left foot from the right and shot across the GK and Dhanyamraju’s follow up was saved by the keeper.

Corner came in from Sagli and Austin arose with the header which was inches over the crossbar.

Gibert was causing Glossop a lot of problems, and probably Giberts best performance of the season so far, he ran with the ball taking it around several of there defenders and his shot hit the cross bar.

East had so much momentum that we couldn’t believe that the game was still 0-0.

Second half:

We start the second half very brightly and created more chances, just couldn’t find the back of the net, with Gibert cutting inside again and missing just wide of the goal. Any time we lost the ball we had a great structure to our press and won the ball back and Glossop struggled with our intensity.

The ball came into Gibert who played a little Back-heel into Austin who stayed very composed and finished past the GK (0-1).

We had spoken about protecting a lead if we go in front and unfortunately 1 minute after Glossop Scored (1-1).

For this spell East struggled to stay composed on the ball and we looked very disjointed for around 10 minutes.

Then we started to control the game again and pushed for the winner.

As we pushed forward we had to be aware the Glossop look dangerous on the counter attack.

Some great defending by Bukky, Neptun, Pugliese & Barbieri. When we looked to get our full backs forward Ellis did a great job covering for them.

Spoletini found himself in a lot of space down the right and was slipped in by Ellis, Spoletini managed to find Sagli with a brilliant cut back and Sagli finished with a great shot to take the lead (1-2).

East protected the lead well, and managed to take home three points which were fully deserved.
